The special Thanksgiving and Winter Holiday AMC Montessori Issues have
been so well received, we decided to continue the holiday theme in our
Spring/Summer 1999 issue. As a transition into spring, we begin with
our very important February holidays.

Creative Care has some adorable Valentine kits for young children. The company also sells children's aprons that will be useful for some of the cooking and other practical life activities. Click here for details.
Montessorians use classified reading cards to help children classify and categorize information. Why not make some classified reading cards about Ground Hogs? Visit Ground Hog to find the specific information you'll need to make a set for your child or for the classroom.

Your next stop should be to the The Abraham Lincoln Research website A. Lincoln:Brief Biography really stands out for its thoroughness in content and organization. You'll really appreciate all the effort that undoubtedly took place in producing A. Lincoln: Brief Biogaphy Timelines are used in a Montessori setting, and this site provides a superb example of how effective this tool can be. The timeline begins with the year 1809 and gives a brief account of the day Lincoln was born. The reader is then encouraged to click on to the hyperlink about his birthplace, Hodgenville, Kentucky. The timeline ends, of course, with the year 1865. Hyperlinks to John Wilkes Booth and Andrew Johnson are also provided.
The George Washington's Mount Vernon website provides teachers with valuable resources. An auxillary student's reading list is available by visiting Reading Lists and Other Resources. Be sure to scroll down to the end of the page and
click on to Washington Genealogy. Supplemental background information about George
Washington is available at Rules of Civility,

If you click on Irish Dance Network you'll find a list of Irish dance associations and socities. Most of the links are for schools/societies in the U.S. and other links for extensivve lesson planning. Contact the organizations listed to see whether members volunteer to perform at the local elementary schools. If you are part of a homeschooling group, perhaps your group leader could arrange for a similar St.Patrick's Day activity. What a wonderful way for children to hear the authentic music and visualize the dance that they are studying!
St. Patrick's Day is full of interesting folklore. Click on Absolutely Green: Rainbow and Gold Section and discover the relationship of rainbows to leprechauns.
St. Patrick's Word Searches and Crossword and St. Patrick's Day are yet two other sites filled with creative compare and contrast exercises. The map skills lesson presented could provide an ideal extension of the Montessori Matching Country Exercise as well.

the significance of the different colors of Easter eggs is given at Easter on the Net- Easter
