amonco.orgA field guide to the learning adult
An independent guide, in five conditions

A field guide to the learning adult.

Amonco is written for adults learning around a job, a family and a tired mind — the language, the instrument, the subject you came back to. It is not a school and it sells no course; nothing here is graded, certified or timed. What it offers is a naturalist’s map of the terrain: the states an adult learner passes through, described from inside, honestly, without pep talk and without numbers we cannot stand behind. Find the condition you are in tonight, and follow it.

The Plateau, from Inside

You are still practising. Nothing is improving. A long, honest account of the stretch that ends most adult learning — what it does to motivation and self-belief, and why it is not the same thing as stalling.

“The plateau, from inside, feels like a question about whether to go on. The answer is almost always: a little further.”

How to read this guide

There is no set order. Each condition stands alone, and each entry inside it stands alone. The honest way in is to name what is actually happening this week — the not-starting, the forgetting, the missing hour, the flat line — and read that. If you would rather understand the machinery first, begin with The Mechanism. And if you only read one thing, make it the flagship entry on the plateau — it is the terrain most journeys end on, and the most worth knowing in advance.
